enter ##7820# in your dial pad

that will open the same screen as if you put in a non-ATT sim card. from there you can enter the unlock code

Used that dial pad sequence to unlock mine last week and it worked. No need for a different sim. Great tip

I just did it like an hour ago. But I was wondering, when you go to about phone, it still says at&t. Is it supposed to? It said it was unlocked and showed it with San unlock symbol. Just wondering..

Unlocking the phone just means you can use it on another carrier. It is still an AT&T phone. I think there are instructions in one of the 640 threads on how to unbrand it. You have to be comfortable with flashing though.
