Lumia 640 T-Mobile windows 10

I find this message to be really interesting, because I got a different one with the t-mobile branded 435. It basically said that your device isn't supported. http://forums.windowscentral.com/microsoft-lumia-435/416388-windows-10-official-435-a.html

That doesn't make sense based on MS's list, so it makes me wonder if it is just coming for the 640 and not the 435 or if it will come for both.
On the tmonews.com site it only mentions the 640 as having been confirmed by T-Mobile as being worked on for upgrade. The 435 is definitely eligible for upgrade so odd that no mention is made.

I think I'll go and get it thru insider and then switch to production. Is it the same?
Yes, build .164 is the same build that is going out OTA, so you can go Insider, grab the build, and then pick which ring you want. You won't need to go on the Production ring to get firmware updates, btw, so you could just stay on Slow if you want. Up to you.

Ok so if I get it thru release and then switch to production, it'll be completely safe and its just bypassing a tmobile approval?

Depends what you mean by completely safe. It still means you get the update before the T-Mobile firmware, so you'll temporarily lose some features, like Wi-Fi calling. But the OS update is the same either way.

So when tmo releases windows 10, it'll be packaged with firmware? Don't get it. I don't want it to screw up any future things.

Yes, since they approved it, WiFi calling and all should work normally.

Yes, as libra89 says if you wait for the T-Mobile release everything (presumably) will work, while if you go to Insider now certain features won't work until you get the T-Mobile firmware. When the T-Mobile firmware comes those features should be fixed, and being on Insider should not interfere with getting the firmware, per Microsoft. So the question is did you wait this long because you wanted a stable build of Windows 10, or did you wait because you want to update once and have everything work? If the former, .164 has been great for me. If the latter, wait a little longer for T-Mobile, I guess.

I'll wait. I did wait this long after all. Hopefully next week it'll come.

According to the thread over at MS Communities T-Mobile got the firmware fix for wifi calling to test beginning of Feb. Maybe we should all tweet Legere! ;)

Does anyone know if anyone with a 640 on AT&T has been able to update to Windows 10 through the Upgrade Advisor?

Just join insider preview, update to the latest then you can select production and you'll be on the latest "stable" one. You should end up with v1511 build 10856.

Nah I'll wait, even though its tempting

My 640 LTE was from at&t originally, and i flashed tmo ROM to use it in Canada. I guess I'll be the last one to receive this update.

I have an unlocked ATT Lumia 640 with the T-mobile ROM flashed on it, and if anyone's wondering, I am also getting that "isn't available for your phone right now" message. It's okay though. I can wait.

Based on the answer below, I think as long as your device is a variant of the official eligible devices and on the insider preview, you won't need to wait on you carrier to approve the windows phone 8.1 to windows 10 mobile update. Useful for devices such as the AT&T Lumia 830, 640 including T-Mobile lumia 640.

Q:**If I already have the current Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build and my device is on the updated list of supported devices for the Windows Insider Program, do I need to do anything?*
A:**No action is required on your part.**As a Windows Insider you have the latest build and do not need to downgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 to receive any updates.**Your device is up-to-date. If you no longer want to receive Windows Insider Preview builds on a particular supported device, you may switch to Production and await future retail updates or move to the Release Preview ring to receive early app updates

Can someone try this scenario: t mobile/at&t Lumia 640 on windows phone 8.1 (denim). Download windows insider and join the release preview ring (this process took my at&t lumia 830 to windows 10 10586.107. As soon as update is complete switch to the production ring on the insider app. Now go to settings>update & security>phone update and see if that produces the 10586.168 build.

Doing it tomorrow

It's the same update that's on the insider why wait? Tmobile dropped support for the phone so fast I wouldn't count on them for a update any time soon

I need WiFi calling to work. My 640 is no longer my daily, but since I need that to work at work, I'll rather wait.
