Lumia 640 T-Mobile windows 10

Today, out of nowhere, I noticed Wi-Fi calling working again. No idea how it happened, but thought I would mention it! I'm on Redstone 14295.

Yeah I took out my sim card and updated the phone completely with all the apps in the store and everything works perfect now.. Strange

I've got two 640's on 14295 and while they no longer boot-loop with the SIMs in and wifi calling enabled, they are still not actually kicking over to wifi calling. So can you guys confirm you are actually seeing the little phone on the wifi icon?

Just bought a Lumia 640 AT&T Go phone for $29 from Walmart.
Waiting for my unlock code and that have to kick it over to tmobile firmware...

if I don't go to Tmobile firmware can I use that WIFI access point feature?/ What will I be missing if I am a tmobile customer?

Not sure what you mean by wifi access point? You mean wifi calling? Theoritically you can use that, but only if you have a T-Mobile SIM, and only after T-Mobile releases a fix that currently breaks that feature. Speaking of which...

With T-Mobile, "soon" could be forever, so don't hold your breath.

I agree. Personally, I'm beginning to doubt it will ever happen.

As I posted earlier in the thread they told tmonews.com they were working on it and AT&T users also haven't gotten anything either. Of course, I would like to think that T-Mobile are not leading us up the Garden path only to admit later they had no intention of releasing it, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. If AT&T release theirs and there is still no sign of a T-Mobile release then we can rightly become upset at that point!

If I remember correctly it took TMO about 6 months from the release of 8.1 to release it to my 925.

Right about the time even AT&T will have discontinued selling the 640 then. Wasn't the 925 also discontinued quicker than expected? I know it wasn't discontinued as quickly as the 640 of course which was probably a record.

See like TMO quickly discontinues all Windows Phones. Just like when I bought my HTC 8x before my 925. I think they discontinued that one the day after I bought it.

Be interesting to see how long the Alcatel remains on sale. Having said that, the Lumia 435 seems to have been on sale for ages and still looks like it's available in Walmart.

I'm guessing that it is doing adequate enough to be kept there OR lots of people are buying it as a 'vacation'/alternate phone. Or both even. It seems like it isn't available at Target anymore though.

I've got the same setup and just started using the app for the 10 update. Getting the same message. As I recall TMobile took a long time to update us to 8.1, so probably the same laggard service here. No respect for Windows 10!

For anyone interested, I rolled back from Redstone builds to .218 because of various bugs that were annoying me, and WiFi calling disappeared. So if that's really important to you, Redstone it is. Overall, though, .218 is a much better experience for me. Highly recommend anyone that is waiting for T-Mobile to just go to the Release Preview ring of Windows Insider. It's worth it.

Basically the way I quoted, Insider App > release preview (then reset the phone) > fully updated > switch to production ring > check for and installed the update that was available > then done.

I can confirm this is works and I am running Windows 10 on my Lumia 640 T-Mobile

Can you confirm with the new release preview how it's running and if wifi calling is working on a tmo lumia 640?

thanks

WiFi calling only works on Redstone branch, but it does work. So if you can stomach the risk, go ahead on Slow ring or Fast ring.
