Lumia 640xl contact lost after update

I have updated my Lumia 640 XL to Windows 10.
Everything seems to be alright, except that I have no contact anymore in my phone.
All messages are lost too.
How can I solve these problems? Losing all the contacts is a nightmare!
Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem since I installed the update last week. I have (on numerous occasions) followed those instructions and went through the process and it tells me the account has been successfully set up then when I press done the account doesn't show up.

In the general setting for 'Your email and accounts' it does show up.

Re: Lumia 640xl contact lost after update

I had the same issue on my 1520 yesterday. I had to remove my Microsoft account and set it up again. It does warn that you would lose all content tied to the account if removed but I did not. All contacts synced back. I didn't have any issues with my messages.

Don't have that I have:
Settings>>Accounts>>your email and account
but no option under that for removal of the microsoft account. My gmail account does have an option to remove it when I click it and use manage but the live.com account doesn't

So may be the account got removed during the update? Try adding your Microsoft account again from that page and see if it works.

@welljock: Have exactly the same problem with my wife's 640 XL.

My wife and I have identical Lumia 640 XLs, which until Friday, April 1st, were both happily running 8.1. After reading an article on-line about updating to Windows 10 Mobile and the Upgrade Advisor app, we decided to take the plunge and upgrade both phones at once. In hindsight, maybe April Fools' day wasn't a good day to make such a big change. Mine finished a while after my wife's but without a hitch; Hers first but, just like welljock's phone, showed her Microsoft Account under Settings | Accounts | Your email and accounts, but not under Settings | Manage accounts in the Calendar, Outlook nor People apps. Curiously, both OneDrive and Skype, which is also linked to her Microsoft Account, work fine.

I was wondering, welljock, if you'd found anything more before I follow pankaj981's advice, which I'm reluctant to try? Have you tried a hard reset? If so, where did that leave you? Has it done the trick?

Regards

Nick Sims

after W10 updates on my Lumia 640 XL, all my contacts are still there in People.

problems:
1. only Outlook contacts are displayed even I have select to view all contacts from other source e.g Facebook. so, previously linked profile Outlook and Facebook are not working anymore.
2. What's New - never works at all. The "Just a moment..." loading like forever lol

If you have @live.com or @hotmail.com addresses as your main phone account, the only way to remove them is a hard reset, the delete option is missing for those accounts for who knows what reason. Doesn't seem to matter what phone, but the @ extension.

I have an Hotmail account as my Microsoft account and I still have the delete option.

My bad. Might have been msn.com? Some domain extension they've made obsolete, I saw it the other day when I was trying to swap aliases and I can't find the link now
