Lumia 830 on T-Mobile

Thanks for the responses. Good to know. Judging by the lack of enthusiasm from the staff at the
Tmobile store, the lack of support for any windows phone seems to run the gamut. I asked the rep at the Tmobile store if they had any screen protectors for my lumia 830. HIs reply was "we don't carry accessories for those types of phones". It's tough being a windows phone fan in a world full of Android and iPhone. Microsoft really needs to step up this year and show their commitment to the Nokia line.

While it is tough being a Windows Phone user, T-Mobile wouldn't carry accessories for any phone it doesn't carry... regardless of operating system.

Fair enough, good point. My opinion is also based on inquiries to Tmobile regarding upgrades to other windows phones and the interesting responses i have received. Nonetheless, a good point. I guess a Tmobile store is not exactly Amazon.com when it cones to phone accessories.
So far, very pleased with my Lumia 830.

I have been able to get screen protectors for the 521 and 635 at my local T-Mobile store. Having said this, my experience is that they do not push the WP phones too, maybe because their customers do not express any interest in them. They stock them and will sell them, and have them on display, but there is little enthusiasm for them among the staff members.

I got the 830 while in Canada and unlocked it for use on T-Mobile. So far it's been working great with the exception of reception issues. I was using a 635 and was getting pretty strong LTE signals, and with the 830 I'm still getting LTE but maybe not the full five bars. Also, whenever I'm on the phone calling someone it drops down to 3G which is a little odd because it stayed on LTE when I was using the 635. Aside from the APN settings which I've already modified, is there anything else I should have to adjust?

Curious what APN settings did you modify as in what to? I have a 000-CA operator 830 on TM too

My 830 (RM-985) and 735 on T-Mo drops to 3G when on the phone. Was your 635 T-Mobile branded? My T-Mo branded 635 and 925 stayed on 4G during calls. I wonder if it has to to with T-Mo HD voice activation on their branded phones? I too get 3-4 bars of LTE in my place whereas I'd get 5 bars on my 635 and 925. Interesting that my 735 (RM-1039) also gets 5 bars often. But both phones (735 and 830) tests the same in downloads/uploads.
My T-Mo branded HTC One M8 stays on 4G during calls. LTE signal bar strength is the same as the 830 when not making/receiving phone calls.

LTE is data only meaning every phone will switch to 3G or 2G for voice services. Depending on your carrier it might still show 4G if your carrier is cheating and falsely claiming the 3G technology HSDPA+ to be 4G. I hear AT&T is doing that.

Either way no phone can stay connected to LTE while making a regular phone call due to technical limitations.

Yeah, my 635 was T-Mo branded and would say something like "T-Mobile HD something" when I'm on a call. Even though my signal strength is somewhat lower, speeds are still fast.

Thanks for that information. I'm really ignorant about a lot of radio frequencies, how 2-4G, cellular bands, etc... work. But I'm learning a bit here and there lol. Got my very first smartphone just a little over a year ago so I really don't know a lot of technical things.
