Lumia 830 viewing angles are not too good.

The screen isn't as good, blacks are greyish etc.
Now that we have the battery out of the way...

I'd almost agree with the above quote, if we weren't all comparing to AMOLED screens, which is an apples to oranges comparison.

It's like saying you don't like your apple, because it doesn't taste like an orange, but if you wanted an orange, that's what you should have bought.

You and Paul are pointing out that colors are more vibrant and that blacks are better on the 730. Well duh, those are the two things AMOLEDs do best. Every IPS screen in existence, as used by the 830, has washed out blacks in comparison. IPS screens have better whites and more natural colors however. We can't get the best of everything in one display. We must choose which qualities are more important to us and select the display type accordingly. All of this is a matter of personal preference.

Ultimately, I agree with both of you, because I also prefer AMOLED, but others don't. Still, although the 830's IPS display is not the best, it's definitely not a poor display either. It's just not an AMOLED.

Yup, I agree. It is a subjective thing. I do prefer the more vibrant almost cartoonlike look of an AMOLED panel but like you say the 830s screen is pretty good for its type. Brightness levels are good and I find the viewing angles just fine. I'm rocking 4 Lumias right now, 2 of each (735,925,830 and 1320) and I love them all for different reasons. I also have an HTC M8 running android which sadly doesn't get much use but is an awesome piece of engineering and design - would love the windows version...

This worse viewing angles are absolutely normal. My friends have LG G2 and Nexus 5 and these phones have also washed out screens when you look at them from this angle. This is the price you have to pay for the good sunlight readability. Since Lumia 720 has worse sunlight readability its viewing angles are better.

You're right. I have checked some other phones with ips display and their screens are all washed out from the diagonal angle.
