It's not the purity in-ear headphones that are the problem. That's a software issue with nokia. My purities don't work with the screen off either but they work on my focus.

I'm going to try this on my old focus but I have a sense you're right. Nokia issue. It would be nice if a fan site like this one could publicize it. My requests in the nokia forums have been ignored

It's not a "nokia" issue, I had the same problem when I was trying out the Titan in January and I heard the Focus S had similar problems. It might be 2nd gen hardware + new OS.
