Lumia 920 -- Not connecting to LTE

My wife recently bought me a Lumia 920 off of Amazon. I swapped my AT&T SIM card in from my Lumia 822 and went about getting the phone set up. Everything works great but I'm only getting HSPA/HSPA+ signal for data. The phone box does show the phone as one from Mexico and when I set it up it defaulted to Spanish. The model number on the box is 920.3 CV MX.

I can take it to the local AT&T store and see if I can get a new SIM card or have them reload the phone in to their system. I get the feeling that it isn't the SIM card and it is the fact that the phone isn't a US model. Can anyone confirm or might have a way to get the phone to see LTE?

I'm trying to suggest a solution for you, but the WPCentral Spam Police are blocking the post. It's just a step-by-step about how to do a factory reset. I've sent a copy to WPC site support asking for clarification about what the issue is with my post (those error messages are never specific). I'll watch for a response for them and will post ASAP.

I would check the bands on that variant to see if it's LTE bands align with ATT's.

Also, it could be the SIM, as my mother's iPhone 4S's SIM did not give my 920 LTE. (purchased at the same time)

Nerdy Woman, just post, then edit your post with the actual content, that should work.

Also, not likely to help, but perhaps you could go into cellular+SIM (settings panel, if you have it) and toggle highest connection to something then back to 4G (may not have that setting)

Thanks for the help both of you. The phone box does list the LTE frequencies and even lists "LTE" on the box itself. I don't know how to confirm the phone actually came out of that box though. I did try to change the connection speed from 4G to 3G to 2G back to 3G and then 4G with no luck.

I can swing past the AT&T store this weekend and see what they have to say. I'm not too confident that they know what they're doing over there though...

I had an AT&T branded Lumia 900 (with LTE SIM), and when I got my Lumia 920 and swapped the SIM from the 900 to the 920, I did not have LTE. I had to call AT&T customer service. They did provisioning on their end, and when I rebooted my 920 I had LTE.

I stopped by the AT&T store and they changed the SIM and updated me on their system. I now show 4G instead of H+, so it seems that it's fixed. Should it say LTE or is 4G correct?

Outside the US for the most part, 4G = LTE. My French-ified 920 does the same.
So it's technically correct. the best kind of correct.

Here in the US there's a slight marketing thing where 3.5G/H+ is marketed as 4G ("fauxG")
See the iPhone 4S's interesting upgrade to "4G" after a software update.

Op: Do you mind posting a picture of the bands mentioned on the box? 925.3 supported LTE band 4 and AWS, not sure what 920.3 supports? BTW I've a Rogers unlocked 920 which supports LTE band 4 and AWS

I found out why I was unable to post the reset info from the Nokia forum... The "Ask a Question" forum is open to guests and therefore, frequently spammed. So they locked it down to disallow links and filter for words referencing money...

In particular, this post about doing a factory reset. Get your wife to help. It sounds like it might require 4 hands to push all the buttons simultaneously. You will need to go through the BYOP process with ATT so their LTE network will recognize the IMEI.

Ok I had this same problem over the weekend, aka the spinning gears of death. After trying many different reboot methods and being stuck in factory reset for a day with nothing working. Finally I tried doing a combination of methods together and it work. Here’s what I did.

Phone on (showing spinning gears of death)

Fully charged

Took Sim card out

I logged into find my phone and erased my phone

Let it sit for 1 hour then turned it off

Press and hold the Volume down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates then release the power button but keep pressing the volume down key for approximately 10 seconds until you see a low battery on the screen.

If you don’t get the low battery and you get the Nokia logo then press the following buttons in this order;

Volume UP

Volume DOWN

POWER

Volume DOWN.

Your phone will now automatically reboot and try again till you get the low battery

When the low battery shows up do nothing, it will turn off by itself

Let sit for 1 hour and turn back on

Press and hold the Volume down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates then release the power button but keep pressing the volume down key for approximately 10 seconds until you see a low battery on the screen.

Plug your phone into the charger when you see the low battery

If you don’t get the low battery and you get the Nokia logo and go back to the spinning gears of death then press the following buttons in this order;

Volume UP

Volume DOWN

POWER

Volume DOWN.

Plug your phone into the charger when you see the low battery but not till you see it

Now press the following buttons in this order;

Volume UP

Volume DOWN

POWER

Volume DOWN.

Your phone will now automatically reboot it will show the spinning gears again but within 10 mins it will start up as a new device.
