at LONG last EE I finally got their fecking *** in gear and started rolling out cyan\WP8.1 to the Lumia 920. Mine is downloading as I write this

I picked my phone up about 09:15 just to check something and it had a message that an update was available, that was the pre 8.1 update once that installed the WP8.1 update was detected and that's currently installing

I also have developer preview and have nothing showing for me either, still have Lumia Black

I just used Nokia Software Recovery Tool to get it. It wasn't showing for me and I had DP. Currently restoring.

just checked the homepage and it says still under testing with the lower EE devices as well.. just wanted to rant here because of that. My update still runs in errors on Update 1. maybe I will turn off Preview Programm and hope it just updates the firmware first.

edit: well no update for me:(

should have said I DIDN'T have DP installed

No worries. There's been nothing but issues with DP installs. Best thing for people to do is use Nokia Software.

I'd like to point that I've done two updates this way and both have had issues (not major though) restoring. My wife's failed at 25% and mine failed at 93%.

but deactivating DP should in theory allow the phone to update to the release of WP8.1 and include the Firmware. The Firmware should be independently updated anyways.

well I now have it. But I agree with you and the cyan update app also lists it as under testing but it IS OUT ON THE 920 ON EE!

Not sure if you understand OTA but Flashing the operation system is not the choice of many users. As long as a backup functionality is not really a backup I am not going to reflash my phone if not necessary

I'm not dumb, I know what OTA is. I also know with my phone in particular it hates any updates so doing it this way is fine for me. I'm not a big gammer and I backup any personal stuff on the phone to either onedrive or my computer.

I get that people don't want to flash their phones but that may be the only choice you what if you want the firmware. I don't see it as a big issue myself but then I'm probably not a typical person.
