manually backup applications

I was hoping someone might know of a solution to manually backup an application to my computer. having come from an Iphone to windows phone I expected this to be a basic feature. however the reason I want to do this is I have Microsoft's awesome You tube app which was sneakily replaced in the most recent update. I want to make sure if I accidently update or send my phone in for warranty I can still keep it. the only promising lead I found was an app linked in this article How To Backup & Restore Windows Phone 8 Texts, Photos & Apps which claimed it could be used to do just what I need, but instead it only seems to work with windows 8 applications. hopefully I'm not the only one un-content with their "app list" backup

I've had my 920 plugged in for about ten minutes now in the hopes that the backup app would scan the phone and find my apps but nothing so far. The article is therefore misleading if it doesn't work for Windows Phone. I've also got that YouTube app and don't want to lose it if I need to do a reset in the future. I've also got one or two other apps that are no longer published, so I'd lose them too.

Nope. When a xap file is installed from an SD card, the phone checks with Marketplace to be sure that you have the right to install it. Since the app is not there anymore, it'd fail. And that's assuming that there were a way to get the app from the phone into the computer, which there isn't. Sorry. :straight:
