Merge calls on WP 8.1 (HTC 8x)

Hi,

I am not able to merge calls on an HTC 8x with 8.1 Developer Preview. If I am on two calls, I can swap between them via the flash button, but the merge button seems to be altogether missing - I think that in its place is the new Skype button.

Am I just missing where the merge calls button was moved to? Or am I just imagining that this used to be possible? I could swear it was there on WP 8.0.

Can anyone on here merge two calls with WP 8.1 Dev Preview, and if so, where does the Merge calls button appear?

The Hold button changes to "Merge Calls" when two or more calls are active concurrently. In order to hold the second/third line etc, all you need to do is swap between them with the toast at the top.

Hmm that is really interesting. On my phone (HTC 8x with latest 8.1 developer preview), the merge button doesn't appear and instead there is a flash button that simply allows you to switch between them. The video button that appears on your phone specifically says "Skype" on mine. Do you have the full 8.1 or a developer preview?

Developer preview is simply early access to the same final version of 8.1 that ships with Lumia 930 and 630 - my partner has a 930 and his displays the same as mine, except he has Skype installed so (as you say) the video button is replaced with skype, but he still has the merge option when conference calling.

As far as I know, no network operators have released 8.1 officially yet for the 8x, so we're presumably using the same version of 8.1. I updated today from 8.10.12397.895 to 8.10.12400.899; I haven't installed update 1 yet as it hasn't shown as available here.

PS: Have you tried uninstalling skype, in case it's causing issues with call merging? My partner has skype installed but it came with his 930, so I don't know if that could be causing flakiness for non 930/630 handsets. I don't have skype installed on my 8x.
