I have just purchased a second hand Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE (software: Windows phone 8.1 Update 2) and unable to get onto pre-installed Facebook app.

When I first click the icon it opens, as soon as I start typing in email address it says "Sorry. Something went wrong. Please try again".
I click ok and am able to enter my email address and password but when click log in it says
"Oops, something went wrong. PLEASE check your account information"

I know I am definitely entering correct email address and password. I have changed password and logged out on all other devices.

Please can someone help me resolve this issue.

Thank you

Hi!

I unfortunately have several bad news.

First, that application is the Windows Phone 8 app. It's been disabled by Facebook. You will not be able to connect to it. After you do your updates in the store, if you update to Windows 10 Mobile at least (can't speak for Windows Phone 8.1 as I have not tried it) it will update the app to open up the website in Edge (or IE in your case) instead of an actual app. But in the last weeks, Facebook stopped supporting Edge on Windows Mobile. So you will get the very basic version of the mobile website which is a pain to use and look at.

Second, the only app that's available is the barely supported Windows 10 universal app. The problem here is that it requires 2 GB to run and the 640 has 1 GB. So it will crash if it even loads.

So my suggestion is to check out SlimSocial. It's an app that acts as a web wrapper for the website and makes sure you get the iPhone version which looks great and works great. You won't get notifications though. What I do is install the universal Facebook app for notifications and use SlimSocial to actually use Facebook.

That's the kind of thing we have to do given this platform is just no longer supported unfortunately.

Thank you dlalonde I have done as you suggested and it has worked, I installed Facebook for Beta as the universal one but as you say using slimSocial is better. Thank you
