Missing music

So sometime last year I purchased a tablet. I copied my music from my old phone to the tablet. It saved it to Xbox music, even though I didn't have a subscription. I ended up losing all the files from a reset and th SD card was unusable. Fast forward to today and I am giving music a shot (30 day trial). Now I can see the music that I had never downloaded from Microsoft. Some of it isn't recognized.

My question is: If I had the music before owning any windows 8 devices, and it backed up to Xbox music on its own, why can I not access my music without a sub and why can't I access all of my music?
Also, if I download all my music will it be locked out again if I don't subscribe?

Microsoft didn't actually "save your" music. What it did was match up what you had with what they had. The reason you're not seeing some of it is due to record label agreements. And yes it most definitely will be locked out...it's protected DRM.

Thanks for clearing that up. If it matched the music, why is some of it showing but unavailable?

The music will show up but only what is in the Xbox catalog will be available to play. What u want to do now is put your music in your OneDrive account "music" folder. Music placed there now show up in the apps. All of it!
