My 930 updated itself yesterday, now only 6 seconds of a song plays before it stops. I've tried both downloaded music and streamed stuff and it happens with both. I've only had my phone six weeks so reluctant to reset it! Please help.

Have you tried restarting your phone (simple power off and power on)? Sometimes, a phone needs to restart to finish updating certain components. If yes, have you tried a soft reset (press volume down and power buttons together until the phone powers down and vibrates)? - this will not erase your phone data.

The last option is a hard reset (the one that erases all your phone data), but you won't need to do that until you encounter a seriously crippling bug in your phone - you don't need to do this now.

I'm having the same problem with my 1520 after updating to denim when using my headphone. Tried resetting and soft resetting. Nothing worked. Any suggestion.

If this is the case then the problem might be with the Denim update itself, since it appears to be the only common factor. However, my L535 (which was shipped with Denim, and which was recently updated to a newer Denim update) plays music without any errors. My L1020 (which received the Denim version of the OS through preview for developers) also played music without errors... but the Denim for the L1020 wasn't an official update. Hence, the issue might be in updating from Cyan to the official Denim release... but we need more reports from other users to confirm this, afterwards Microsoft might release a fix to the problem.

What OS version are you (two) running? My L1020 was running 14219 while my 535 is running 14226 - a more recent update.

i have the same issue ONLY when using headphones from my old HTC phone. They have the play/pause buttons on the cord.
With others headphones it doesnt happen. Neither when i play it to the speakers

I have some kind of a problem when I connect my purity pro with a cable, they halt in playback after a few seconds. When pressing the volume rocker it changes from media apps/headsets.
Bluetooth works fine.

Edit: Running 14219

I am in the process of testing why it doesn't work with a cable attached to the 3.5mm socket. When I am listening over the Bluetooth, its just works, but when I plugg the cable, witch came along with my Purity Pro, the sound disappear.

When I tested another 3.5 mm cable with only 2, instead of 3 black markings on the plug, it all worked.

On the 920 it does work with the 3 marked original nokia cable. And I am running the same OS on both ( 8.10.14219.341)

Is it any difference in music quality between these two cables?

There should be no difference in audio quality between these two types of cables/audio jacks (presuming that the speaker modules at the other ends are the identical).

The rings separate the components of your headset, so if there are three rings there should be four separate metal sections in the jack (left, right, microphone, common/ground). Two rings means that there are only three separate metal sections (left, right, common/ground). The third "ring" only serves to insulate a section of the jack that is dedicated to the microphone, so if your headset does not have a microphone, it should not have this third "ring". Hence, this should not affect the left-right audio output.

?

Try if it works if you lift the plug a little up after you plugged it in.

It works, but the sound is not as rich as with the other cables.
Well, i could test some other cables with 3 rings on it.

Thank you for your replies, it was really helpfull!

I faced this problem a few days ago and the problem was actually with my headphone, not the phone. If you're using a headphone which has play/pause controls then that's what causing the problem. Somehow its receiving a command to pause the song. You might wanna change the headphone or wait for the problem to disappear magically.

Same issue is happening with my Icon, but my headphones don't have any control on them. Works fine with my other headphones though. Didn't have this issue with my 928 with denim.
