Must have software?

Now that I finally have a good SP3 worth keeping after 7 attempts, I wondered if there was a list going anywhere that contained the "must have" software/updates for these things? I remember reading about an nTrig update somewhere but I can't find it now, I already did the firmware update and whatever else MS told me to when I checked for updates, but are there any other drivers I should be replacing or anything?

You should be good just by poking through Windows Update, and perhaps the MS support website.

I think you should be relatively OK

Not really updates, but I think touchme gesture studio and touch mouse pointer are must have app/program forevery windows 8 tablet, check them if you have not :)

Just curious, what kind of issues you have encountered for past 6 surfaces? I want to see if I should exchange one too lol

As for the issues I've had, every single device has had at least one dead pixel, one had a chunk taken out of the bottom by the kickstand that was down to the bare metal, one had defective magnets on the bottom of the screen that wouldn't allow the keyboard to prop up in its new position, and one had big specks of dust under the screen. Some or all of these devices experienced combined issues above, like dust and dead pixels or dead pixels and bad magnets. Basically I hadn't seen a perfect device. Even this one has a tiny little ding/dent in the keyboard channel underneath like something got stuck between the keyboard and the SP3, but I don't know if it was there or if I did it somehow. As such, I'll be very carefully putting the keyboard on and taking it off because the magnets are so insanely strong.

Other than that the only other thing this one had was a stuck pixel, but that went away after the first reboot and update installs.
 
wow, 6 defective devices in a row! Sorry about all the issues you went through the device. I would have given up by the third one. You must have a great faith in the device. :) Maybe you should try another store. My touch screen was not as responsive as it should be at the beginning (especially when charging), looks like charging interferes the touch screen. After the updates, it's better now, but I can still see it not working properly sometimes, i.e. when I swipe from the top edge to close apps, it sometimes doesn't recognize the edge gesture and I has to swipe again. I am not sure if this is a common issue or I should exchange one although I don't remember my original surface had this issue.
