My Car bluetooth has stopped reading out my texts

My Car Bluetooth used to read out my texts, so a text alert sounded and I would be asked to read or ignore. Since a recent software upgrade the Bluetooth still sounds a text alert but then I don't get the question asked of read or ignore, my speech is turned on for Bluetooth.

Is this a phone or car system issue?

My car Bluetooth device which is also a Nokia unit has stopped displaying signal strength and battery life after upgrade to Wp 8.1.
Has anyone got any ideas please?

I had exactly the same problem with my Mitsubishi Outlander and my Nokia 630; at the risk of sounding dim I am not sure where I saw this but I just turned the blue tooth volume up on the phone, and it started working.
