My first Windows Mobile phone

Ok i want to get my first windows mobile phone i have a few questions about the touch pro 2. I have an Iphone my brother wants it so hes goign to get the Touch Pro 2 with his upgrade and give it to me. Since its my brother im willing to do the swap just like that (lol) Besides i got my iphone at best buy so it has insurance. My questions are :

1. How does the video/music play back work is it good?
2. How complicated is WM 6.5?
3. is it worth it? (yes i saw the iphone or tilt 2 thread)
4. How easy is it to hack the phone ala jailbreakiing iphone? is it the same or more difficultt? i hear you can do more things with a WM phone over the iphone.
5. Does the phone come with memory card? my iphone has 32gb how much does the touch pro 2 have?

why doesnt your brother just jump ship to AT&T and get his own Iphone and leave you out of everything?
I have a 16gb card in my TP2 but it cost me $40 on Ebay. I think the TP2 can hold up to 32gb but to buy the card would cost close to $100.

WinMo isn't complicated at all if you realise it's intent is to be a mini computer. If you can work Windows on a PC, you will do just fine. If however, you still prefer the iphone style interface, there are tons of "shell" programs that mimic this. I run SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.1 on my Touch Pro 2. The screen resolution and the customization of 3.5.1 puts the iphone to shame.

As far as custom ROMs, they are everywhere. You can even get custom Android ROMs to run on it. I just put Android 2.0.1 on an old HTC Kaiser. The great thing is Windows is still on it too!

Get the Touch Pro 2, customize it, and enjoy. The possibilities are endless!

To answer question 4: There is no need to jailbreak your Touch Pro2! One of the advantages of Windows Mobile and Android over the iPhone is that you can pretty much do whatever you want to them out of the box. As raticus mentioned, Windows Mobile even has several front-end UI programs (also known as shells) available. The Tilt2 even comes with HTC's own TouchFlo3D shell, which I like very much.

I agree with the above statement. Remember that there is no draconian force that contols what you put on a WinMo device akin to Apple's control over the iphone. The big reason people put cooked ROMs on their devices is to either remove the "crapware" that AT&T, Verison, T-Mobile etc load them up with and/or add in some custom programs directy into the OS. I have never put a cooked ROM on my devices (besides Android). The crapware I didn't want? Simple registry edits will quickly disable them.

Yep, the fact of the matter is that while the iPhone is about as "perfect" a user experience can get today - but the fact you jailbroke it means you want more.

3 things to consider though... 1) Do you want a physical keyboard or not? If not, you can certainly look at a fre other WinMo options. If you do, the TP2 feels great in my hands.

2) Are you willing to dig for programs and put up with some that don't work. WinMo's legacy is long... There are apps out there from 10 years back that will still work great, you just have to find them. Google or Bing Windows Mobile Freeware and you'll see what I mean.

3) Remember this: everything is removable on the TP2... You can get multiple cards for video, music, photos, etc... So don't stress about the memory thing too much. The only media advice I have is to invest in the CorePlayer software. It's $30 and worth every penny for the TP2...

The reason is My brother who's getting my iphone is on my plan no upgrade available. We are using my other brother who is on his own plan upgrade to do this.

1) Awesome A2DP stereo also gives you lots of bluetooth options
2) If you figured out the crapple you can figure out WM just be patient with it and remember its a mini PC there could be lag and a reset needed from time to time
3) If you like to customise your phone you said you jail broke your crapple so you must you will love the flexibility of WM
4) See #3 and yes if you follow the directions most hacks are very simple if you have any issues just post up we will help if we can
5) No and the TP2 can handle up to a 16 gig card. But if you need more space just get another card try that with a crapple

I have the best of both worlds. I have the Touch Pro2 on Sprint, and the latest gen iPod Touch. I do most everything on my TP2 but if I don't want to run my battery down on my phone, then I use my iPod Touch. And my TP2 is already customized majorly, even using the standard ROM. I have icons gleaned from WM 6.5, wallpapers customized to run on every screen, ringtones for every occasion, and I even added via the registry the ability to force roaming, which came in handy when I was at a state park a couple of months ago for a weekend retreat and there was only Verizon signal there. Thus far my TP2 is the best phone I've owned, and I've had Treos, the Pre for a month, BlackBerry Curve, etc.

Oh I thought you were going to tell me it was something complicated. i see now. lol
I personally nevere wanted an iPhone because they were everywhere like McDonalds. No mystery or discovery or real allure. They are cooland still beautiful but the competition has caught on and caught up and i don't think there is anything an iPhone can do that the newer Android and WinMo phones can't.
I personally like the slideout keyboard but the onscreen keyboard for the TP2 is almost as accurate as the iPhone.
So get one fora month and see how you like it and if it's not for you get a Samsung Behold II...nice Android OS and beautiful amoled screen and thousands of apps.

Well, I responded yesterday but my post went into moderation needed for some reason. That happened on another thread too. I've seen another person posting about this issue.

Anyway, I just posted to say that I went the best of both worlds route. I have the Touch Pro2 on Sprint, and the latest gen iPod Touch. If I'm going to do heavy texting and emailing, the TP2 always is my weapon of choice. If I'm going to listen to long periods of music or watch videos, I will normally do it on my Touch just for the fact that I am saving my TP2 battery life for the day. Otherwise, the TP2 does a great job with the multimedia, and the battery life is really good. No complaints about either device from me.

Since I started using smartphones I always have a cradle at the office and a car charger Usually a car charger body with a usb sync n charge and the wall charger that comes with the phone at hom no problems with a batery running down anywhere.

True enough about portable charging, but if I want to watch a movie without concern of phone interruption then my iPod would be my choice. Nevertheless, if that device weren't with me, since I don't carry it all the time like I do my TP2, then the large and high rez screen of the TP2 make video viewing just spectacular for me.

For WinMo, you can either use the newly created Microsoft Markeplace, or you can go directly to sites like Handango or Handmark, or even WMExperts, to download software. WinMo is way more open, compared to the iPhone/iPod Touch, as to how and where you obtain software.
