My great WP experiment is coming to an end

Bought my 1520 just under a year ago, but have decided to go back to the iPhone. Despite very few problems with WP and my actual preference for 8.1 and Cortana over my experience with iPhone, the main reasons are as follows:

* iPhone 6 plus now gives me my favorite part of the 1520...size. I knew I could never go back to a "smaller" phone after using the 1520...or anything less than 5".

* App gap never really bothered me much, but I'm slowly getting sick of lack of an Instagram update (I need video), Facebook working as well as it does on iOS, Twitter has been okay...and my local bank app is a convenience I miss, just a little, but an annoyance is just that.

* The main reason is that I was on iPhone from the beginning. All my music is stored/purchased on iTunes. I miss being able to simply add the songs I want to my phone over the air. iMessage is a godsend when I don't have a cell signal....and my family never calls me anymore (we always used FaceTime). Apple is smart this way....they've trapped me in their ecosystem since every other person in my direct family as well as extended family uses iPhone.

Yes...a lot of this is minor stuff, but the new larger phone size is enough to make me go back over.

Keeping my Surface Pro 3 though. Probably the greatest device I have ever owned.

So in other words.. The iPhone just works out better for you. I was thinking the same thing of going to an iPhone a couple months ago but changed my mind since I have had 0 problems with my Lumia icon and am still happy with it.

You made some very valid points. Sounds like you are tied to the ecosystem, and I can't fault you for that. I was also thinking of going to iPhone 6 plus, but what really deterred me was price on AT&T Next or the total outlay of money was too much. Plus, I have 4 family members on Windows (3 920's and a 520 and myself on the 1520 and we love using the family room -sharing pictures, sending group text, adding a shared calendar and also have a synchronized OneNote experience. To Do Lists and menus are really great with OneNote in a shared family room. I don't really care too much about Music, as I pay for monthly streaming and don't keep music on the device. In fact, iTunes music it what frustrated me so much I left for Windows. My wife has the Iphone 6. Good Luck to you.

That is definitely part of their business model. Peer pressure is a consciously built-in component of their operation.

If peer pressure was involved, I would have never tried out WP in the first place.

It is very smart integration between iPhone, iPad, Macs, AppleTV, etc. Nobody does a better job of cross-platform integration than Apple.

Wanting to synch up better with my family has nothing to do with peer pressure, it is ease of use.

Well Apple traps you 'cuz you let them to. I never have any iPhone; however all my family have them. They keep pushing my wife and I to get iPhone to facetime with them. In the end, I show them how to install Skype instead. So now they can talk to us on the apple products or even on their computer anytime.

A trap would mean one is forced to utilize a sub-par product/experience...having the ability to text over wifi is a big deal in some cases where a cell signal is not available (one of my offices and on a plane to name a couple).

Forcing every single person in my family to download and utilize Skype when they have Facetime already on their phone/tablet/computer is not convenient.

I'm not stating one is better than the other or that there aren't workarounds, but you can't deny that Apple has done a great job of making it easier to use any of their devices over a Windows or even Android device.

I love my Windows phone and would keep it if none of these other items were a factor...gonna miss Cortana...and I think MS is doing a good job of catching up, but simply won't be fast enough for me.

Just please don't confuse my switch as some sort of peer pressure or "iSheep" factor as I could care less about that. I just want a phone as big as what I have had the past year with basically the same features (or more) than what I have had.

I do see it posted all the time around here. My friends/family/coworkers/whatever won't contact me since I lost my FaceTime. Sounds like peer pressure to me. Glad to know it is not. Glad to know that it is just... What? The advantages of the Apple way?

Hah...like I said, I don't think that way, so not offended in the least.

My family not calling me as much is due to convenience (or should I say "inconvenience" on their part)...if I can make that better by owning an iPhone, than good.

My note on here is more of a comment on the power of a strong ecosystem, not any dislike of my current 1520...loved it.

I honestly love WP. Coming from android, it was a breath of fresh air. I couldn't see my self going back to Android or slipping over to Apple. My biggest problem is finding the right hardware at this point.

The great success of Apple is to develop lock-in to their products. Skype and other video chat services have existed long before FaceTime existed. But, they make it really convenient to use, and suddenly it becomes the default video chat service for many people, and they don't video chat with their boyfriends, they FaceTime™ them. Same with iMessage, there are dozens of messaging clients out there, and many of them are cross platform and offer other benefits, but if you use iOS, iMessage is seamless.

1) There is a forum here for sales. If I am not mistaken, it is against to rules to try to sell outside that forum.
2) As to leaving, so what? I am at a loss why people seem to want to bare their souls about the fact they prefer something else. The only person to whom this is relevant is you. These things always sound like a comedy skit involving a Catholic confessional.
3) The overarching drama of these posts escape me. You are choosing an inanimate device with an OS you prefer over another, not having an affair, getting a divorce, giving up a child for adoption, etc.. Contrary to VZW commercials with an older iPhone trying to keep its owner from getting the new one, the devices really do not care....

LOL - It's cathartic man..we anthropomorphize inanimate objects, you know like giving names to our cars because it has a face. ATT, VZ, Orange, Rogers etc, all want you to love your phone. Poster doesn't need to apologize, we all wrestled on the pro of cons of decisions (albeit, not life and death stuff) but we make thousands of these things every day. I just enjoy people's feeling about their electronics.
