my lumia 520 screen blinks/flickers

sometimes when i press the lock/power button my lumia screen will sometimes blink/flicker for about 5 or 6 seconds the screen will be gray when it flickers and then turns black. also whenever im on a phone call it will do this and i would have to wait an extra 6 seconds to end the call. how can i stop this from happening
