My phone compass is faulty

I bought a used Lumia 920 like several weeks ago. No matter what compass apps that I used, they consistently show the same pattern. Even after numerous calibration. The north can wrongly point up to about 65-75 degrees from the the true north. While the most accurate I can get is about 25-30 degrees in error.

I am currently in Urbana, Illinois, USA. My previous Lumia 900 was okay though.

Does anybody has experience fixing their compass? How much will it cost if I am going for a repair?

By chance do you have the phone in a case? Some people reported compass problems and that the magnet in the case was causing it. Took it out of the case and it was fine. Even a couple that didn't have magnet cases but once out of the case worked fine. Others backed up their phone and did a hard reset, not a whole lot of success there. Do you get a message saying to calibrate the compass when opening city lens? That popped up in the nokia forums.

No my phone is not in a case. Yeah I have heard of that too that case caused problems. Like I said, I have calibrate it numerous times, of course after being asked by apps. It is obviously my phone.

metro compass is the only one i can get working correctly on my lumia 920.i don't have a case either.
