I've got a guy at MSFT that's been working on Mango, and he says it will crush iOS. I believe him.

It won't, and if your friend genuinely thinks so then he's as bad as any ****** Apple have ever had the misfortune to pick up (though to be fair to him I suspect he's just towing the company line).

Will Mango be great? Yep. But one OS upgrade is not going to flip things on their head overnight, and there will always be people that one OS suits much better than another. Besides which, WP7 should be gunning for Android - it's the OS with the lower user satisfaction levels and the OS where low-end handsets are terrible so users will be much more tempted to switch. And ice cream sandwich looks like a kludge of an OS upgrade - never a better time to pick up disillusioned users!

IMO, Mango is better than iOS. Just because it doesn't out sell it, doesn't mean it's not better. I don't think his buddy at MS was saying it would crush iOS sales, just that it's the better OS.

It's different - better in some ways, worse in others. Some people will see that as being better overall because it suits them more, others will see features that someone else loves and hate them. I get on equally well with WP7 as I do with iOS, which is why I have a WP7 phone and an iPad - best of both worlds.

Let's be honest though - unless you've got a handset running version 1.0 of any modern smartphone OS, you're not going to have a "bad" OS!

I think what it would come down to is if you went back to ios, you'd miss WP7. I was dual wielding my Nexus One when I got my HD7 and I'd swap back and forth dependent on my mood for the day and what needed to be done but found every time I used my N1, I really missed my HD7. I only missed a couple features on my N1 but never missed the entire package.

I ended up giving my Nexus one to a family member and honestly haven't ever had a moment where I've missed it like if I wasn't using my WP7 phone. It's odd how that is but I figure it's gotta say something for the interface and all around usability of the phone. I actually get frustrated using Android or ios on other people's phones now.

If the iPhone is the phone for you, than that's your choice but I don't think I could step back like that. WP7 is just too good (especially with Mango).
