network signal - phantom issue

I have a really weird issue with my phone. It displays no signal bars at all (no service) but I can make-receive phone calls and send-receive text messages. How can I fix it?

I've had this on occasion with my 710. But I also suffer from the issue whereby my handset lose network for a second (a genuine drop in signal), and the phone takes ages (~20 seconds) to get it back, which is even more annoying!!

They seem to be firmware issues, and at present, Nokia don't seem all too interested to fix them; maybe with the Tango updates, they will?! We live in hope
