New owner question-What does touchpad on Surface 2 type cover do?

Hello, does anybody know what the track pad on the type cover 2 for a Surface 2 is supposed to do, mine appears to do nothing. Thanks.

You'll need to change your PC settings to enable the proper function of the touchpad.

I purchased the Type 2 cover off eBay, it was sealed in the package but had no information at all with it, thanks again.
