New Venue 8 Pro 5855

I have loved my original-generation Venue 8 Pro, and asked for one of the 5855 tablets at work last year, just before Dell discontinued it. The reps even told our IT head that it was not a good device. Based on my experience with my own device I can understand that it's definitely not for everybody, but I think that it will be a very capable and lightweight tool for me to carry around in my lab environment to diagnose various test instruments and look-up documentation.

So I noticed today that Dell is selling them again with different part numbers, lots of new drivers released this year, and a revised marketing write-up, saying it's perfect for "specialized applications." Could anybody comment on improvements over the past few months?

Since I wrote my post, i've done a full factory reset on it, which seems to have fixed some of the issues. it still does not have a good record for power management, and i don't recommend it unless you plan to charge it regularily. i could see this working in a lab type environment, where you dock it, take it off to check something, and then redock it so it doesn't stay away from a power supply for more then 2-3 hours.

i don't think the drivers have done anything more then update it to keep it current, and i haven't noticed any performance boost.
