Hey all. Thanks to James for the invite!

Long-time IT person here. Been around since punch cards.
Used just about every technology/OS/hardware out there.
Settled on WP for mobile for now.
Getting up to speed on the whole dev thing again. Been out of it for a while as my career took some diff paths. Networking, FW, Security... Now I'm a manager of IT teams so I find I have some extra time to spend on dev apps.

I'm not into making games or things like that. I'm looking to make tools and other things that help the mobile device itself more useful on a day-to-day basis. I'm on a SAR team so mapping (off-line mapping) and GPS are probably my focus. Also am a bit of a fitness buff so looking to make apps that help me with cycling and weight lifting.

Look forward to learning so much from everyone. Thanks!

I guess the first thing to ask is have you messed with .NET or Visual Studio any?

I haven't done much WP developing myself (near to none, basically) so I'm not much sure in that area itself I can help with. :[

Newbie here as well.

I am reading buildingcsharp by Microsoft Press. This will help on C#, .NET and visual studio. Though it is old but people recommended this on different forums. I know the basics of structural programming and OOP very well but just need to work on a project to take off for development then I will move to WP
I got this book in pdf, if anybody interested then message me.

I just linked to it on another post but I'll do it again. Microsoft Virtual Academy offers free video tutorials for WP development.

Since you're just getting started, my best tip will be to use MVVM. Once you get the hang of it you'll find it's much quicker and easier to build apps that way.

The best way to start (after watching a few tutorials) is to just build something. Maybe build something and put the code on github so the community here can give you feedback

good luck and have fun

I'm not dead!

Just been doing all the suggested readings and video watching. Will start posting things soon!
