I guess, but for example I sell Cellphones covers.

If there's a cover that's hard to sell or gets returned a lot I'll always try to shift people away from it even though they asked for it in the first place. Why? because not only do I hate when people return stuff (because they are all mad even though it's not the current employee fault) and also I have the customer best interest at heart.

I wouldn't want to sell them something that's not up to par, that being said if the still want the stuff I give it a detail run of pros and cons and they made their own decision. That being said there's no excuse for D-baggerism or condescending attitude.

I would have waited for the HTC HD7S to show up. The Focus is a cheap phone, imho. Flimsy. Nice screen, yes, but feels like a hollow piece of plastic. Probably because it IS a hollow piece of plastic...

I am waiting for the HD7s. The new Infuse 4G android phone will be hard to resist though. Hmm

Well excuse me for owning a Cheap and Flimsy phone... Do you have some super special early release dual core phone? Do you realize that most folks don't keep their phones longer than 2 years, a good portion even less than that.

I'll just sit back and enjoy my Cheap, Flimsy little 49 dollar Focus... That by the way does everything that ever Windows Phone does...

Whoa lets not get all up in arms about an opinion that isn't politics or religion lol jk jk ctt1wbw is a cool dude, but I'm not taking sides here... Ctt1wbw, I'd say you best hope that HTC revisited the drawing board on more than just the screen for the HD7s because if all they REALLY did was just swap out the screen and tweak the firmware for it to work (apparently that's all that was really changed according to AT&T). The HD7 isn't the best piece of hardware either, I've owned two, played with a friends HD7, and all three I've noticed that the battery cover becomes annoyingly loose, the volume rocker is loose and jiggly but not that bad on my particular device. The camera is difficult to press but you get used to that real quick, the power button is recessed to the point where you either gotta have a little bit of fingernail on your finger or you really gotta get up on the damn button to lock or unlock the thing. Also concerning all three buttons (power, volume rocker, and camera) the polish/lacquer/finish on them isn't that great it'll fall off after maybe 6 months of usage. The HD7 isn't metal either (the only metal part is the kickstand) it's glass up front, soft touch plastic in the back (battery cover feels horribly cheap, maybe because it is) and is wrapped with a pseudo chrome painted black. The looseness of the volume rocker and battery cover will give it an extra plasticy feel. I don't care however I looked past all of that because I understand its still round one of devices and its a great OS. Just wait until the Nokia WP7 devices come out those should feel solid.

The ATT store I went to, 3 out of 4 employees there (including the store manager) were using Windows Phone personally.

When I went to shop for my phone, the corporate ATT store in my area had issued all of their employees except for one Windows Phones. The one that wasn't using a Windows Phone was using a Blackberry. All of the employees were using the Focus, and all of them seemed to like it a lot. One of them even went so far as telling me that Android and Iphone were old and outdated and that Windows Phone was where it was at. Of course, the next week when the Atrix came out that same guy (who must have forgotten his previous conversation with me) said that the Atrix was the best phone period.

I taught the employees there a few things about their Windows Phones and Android as well. I feel bad because I told one of the guys that Angry Birds was coming April 6th...

What a douche bucket. Android sucks. Angry Birds is over-rated unless something special launches with the WP7 version of angry birds I ain't buying it, they're probably going to milk the living f??k out of it's popularity to charge between 5-7 bucks for it, which is completely stupid with it only being FREE on Android and like a dollar on iOS.

Honestly, I would relish the ability to sell a WP7 phone right now.

Android might have "more options", but the OS, and all the proprietary crud that the manufacturers install over it, is an absolute, utter mess. Far worse than Windows in the 95-ME days.

How many times have I gotten tech calls where the user had their device replaced ten times, and nobody thought to delete the hidden Motoblur account found on most of Motorola's new Android devices? The dang phones reinstall all their bugs and issues after every wipe! How many customers *without* Motoblur keep reinstalling the same problem-causing app over and over again every time we wipe/replace, and then blame the phone or phone model? How many times have I gotten some IT desk guy who was sold on all these Android devices and their freebee apps, just to realize that Android's Exchange support sucks, and we don't have any way to support or help them? How many customers have I had to tell their phone has to be wiped because Android decided it didn't like one of their outgoing SMS or MMS messages?

It happens. A lot.

And it's the reason that there was still so much iPhone clamoring even after the Droid came out.

Admittedly, there's a lot of user error in there, and much of the problem is the fault of Manufacturer Meddling, but if you're going to mass market mini-computers, you need to either dummy-proof them, or sell them with the expectation that the user is purchasing a computer, and that not every piece of software will work correctly for the one they have purchased. There were no illusions about what I was purchasing in the Palm m105 days when I jumped in. Unfortunately, a lot of these salesmen are too lazy to properly qualify a customer for a device. Thus, here we are.

There is an enormous market of frustrated customers out there right now, ripe for the picking. Somebody just has to step up and grab it. And frankly, Microsoft tends to be good at that sort of thing. On top of that, they learned all these lessons the hard way over a decade ago and WP7 is evidence they're working on a solution. Don't write them out. This fight is only beginning.

In my VZW-tech-rep opinion, the Trophy can't possibly come fast enough.

Store reps, fanbois, etc., heed my words. PLEASE for the love of God quit selling Android to the non-technologically inclined! And quit tearing email-heavy business users and global roamers away from blackberries. I am not your maid, and I am sick of cleaning up your messes!

Thanks for the insight Polychrome, Like I said before WP7 is my first Smartphone so I don't know much about it.

One day a young lady when to my work to ask me if I could charge her HTC Aria, since I have a good phone now I decided to ask her a couple of questions to compared. ( Not about Android per se but about the good apps ) The first app she told me about was an Antivirus.

Now after that point everything else became white noise, I just couldn't believe my ears. An Antivirus for a phone? why? what's happening here. I had lots of questions but she was 16 at most and obviously was her first Android device so we just keep comparing apps and talk for a while. That really reasure my stance to keep my Windows phone =). ( I'll be honest though, I think the Iphone is amazing )

I remember when i started working at verizon and overheard the reps telling customers to install a anti virus app and i had the same reaction as you like....why does somebody need anti virus for a phone. I remember one customer who had a virus and his phone would just start calling people by itself lol. Google really needs to test every app before they hit the marketplace.

This is what really pushed me towards WP7.

Windows Phone isn't for everyone, but neither is Android or iOS. If I were selling a device, the "easy sale" to me could be one I regret. My boy gets so many users coming back or contacting him by phone wanting/needing help with their Android devices. Heck, there are times he'll call me or message me and ask me about things.

I don't tell him how to sell, but I can guarantee 75%-85% of those customers, all they would have needed was a windows device and would not be contacting him like they do now.

On top of that, if you go to the normal cellphone review sites, it's all about Android these days. It's like everyday a new android device come's out. It won't be untill Mango puts WP7 besides the others in terms of functionality, WP7 can sell more.

And there are off course the smaller items that need to be fixed. Being able to do all the same as Android or the iPhone is not enough. It has to do these things also better.

We have to face it, at this time, the only thing that WP7 is better at, is the simplicity of the OS (in my eyes that is big) and the smooth operations. In terms of functionality WP7 is lagging behind. I guess I can understand the salesman not pushing WP7. When you read the review sites, they also are pushing Android phones, if we can call that pushing off course.

Being said, WP7 has a bright future, it will all depend on MS themself.

I guess i don't see WP7 as lacking even now. Android is a iPhone look alike and thats why folks buy them. Mango will put WP7 ahead of the others. Mango will bring feature that android and iphone can't do. Developers are already seeing wp7 as the best platform to develope on. Consumers will soon see how superior wp7 is to the compition. Maybe we need to get out there and start evanglizing wp7...I've been doing it in my area. :)

To be honest as a salesman I'll probably push the things that are easier to sell. It's hard to sell a Windows Phone so you won't want to waste your energy trying to get somebody to buy a phone when they might say no.

It's much easier to just push android/ Iphone for easy sales.

The phone is great and will sell itself if you put it in the buyers hand. If they say no, they came to buy a phone, so they will buy something.

as an experienced salesman myself I would say that there is only SOME truth to what you say. Push the things that are easier to sell is the lazy way out for a salesperson and generally only applies when you have a customer that doesn't know what they want, just that they have to have "SOMETHING NEW". But, I suspect that a large % of WP7 buyers are coming into the store looking specifically for a WP7 phone, in which case the "easy" sell is to show the customer what they are already asking for and let them sell themselves. Trying to switch a WP7 customer to Android or iPhone is likely to just piss them off and make them leave without buying anything (same basic rule applies to all of the major smartphone O/S's). Why would it be hard to sell a WP7 phone to someone who is specifically asking for it?

In my experience, the easy sale is the one where I take the time to talk to the customer, find out what they really want/need, show them the options available (without bias), and let them make the right choice for themselves. Is it as quick as shoving the model down their throat that has an extra spiff on it because the mgr ordered too many and we're overstocked? Probably not, but I tend to not have my customers coming back in a day or two later complaining and/or returning the item they never wanted/don't need but were fast-talked into taking anyways (unlike many of the other salespeople I have worked with over the years).

Amen

Only problem is it doesn't explain why many seem to be trying dissuade people clearly interested in a WP7 device and persuade them towards Android (e.g., my experience and Disposed's sister's experience). It seems like an easy sale to get someone who's already interested in a device to go for the device (just explain the features). If you give them more options, they'll be less likely to make a decision either way.

This really is a ****** problem.

I think it has to do with this anti-Microsoft culture that really doesn't know why they don't like Microsoft. So they flock to Google and its android platform. Now thats all they know and thats all they want to really support.

Totally agree. I was strongly considering the Droid X or the Droid Incredible at the time and I had trouble with both phones' operating systems. I dislike the HTC wrapper on the Incredible. I test called myself and spent a good 5 minutes trying to figure out how to delete the phone history record. The Droid X had a really fast web browser which is why I was considering it.

People like my sister aren't going to be able to figure out Android in its current form. She bought an iPhone about a month ago because it's considered easy to use. She had some trouble figuring it out at first, but got the hang of it. I think WP7 is a good phone for non-techies.

There is a *bit* of Virus danger on any platform, but when you're talking about a phone that has its OS flashed into the device, the fix is just a wipe. Any damage that a virus is gonna do on a device like that is snatch your account or zombie-bot itself out, meaning any damage that could be done will be done before you notice. All that in mind, an antivirus is overkill, and most people since the old palm days agree.

We're actually told not to recommend the antivirus apps because they tend to cause weird screen issues and generally mess with the OS in their attempt to "protect" it.

I had gotten my Focus yesterday at BB but they had no cases so went to the AT&T store to get one (I was worried after seeing how thing the battery cover was).

The salesman who greeted me pointed out the cases, then mentioned that he had one of them but would recommend a different one. I asked him if he had a focus and he said yes, and showed me his phone with that case on. Another guy who was there passed by and said "that is a great phone".
