Nokia 1020 is my first phone.. I didn't buy a sim card because I won't need it until april18th

Right now it is charging, the windows icon is flashing but it won't go to the main screen. So I came to the assumption that it needs the sim card in order to use the features except text and calls. Is this correct?

you should be able to use everything except calls and messages without a simcard and still make a emergency call without a simcard ,just press close when greeted with that simcard error popup

I will say for youtube use the Metrotube app and for music you have the nokia music else you can access soundcloud using an app called music
