Nokia 1520 won't factory reset

I just got a nokia 1520 and it won't complete a factory reset. It gets about 30% through then stalls and resets and goes through the process again. Eventually, I get a sad face and it shuts down. Is there anything I can do?

Have you tried a manual hard reset using the physical buttons?
Also, if it's running Windows Phone 8.1 you might be able to rollback to Windows Phone 8 which would do a "hard reset" (wouldn't be a hard reset, technically, but it would do all the same things), then update back to 8.1.

I had (have) the same issue with my 1520. I went out and picked up a 640 while I try to figure it out but so far nothing works, even the recovery tool cannot detect the phone (yes I tried the button for such scenarios as well) Searching the forums with the hope someone here has a fix (nothing in the MS forum as of yesterday) This was with the 10166 build

This is the only thing that works. I tried to do a reset after installing Win10 and only got a sad face over and over. The Windows flash software fixed it right up. I did have to try the button trick from it being powered off several times, but it eventually worked.
