Nokia Announcing Windows 8 Phones next month
If they are quad-cores with PureView, etc, they better annouce and release them before the iPhone5. If the specs aren't going to be the best in the market, they shouldn't even bother...
Nokia can't afford to have just good phones right now. They are in a critical moment, so they have to be the best.
I understand needing nice specs, but Lumia 900 seems to run great as is. Anything better then that should run great, assuming WP8 isn't so much of a resource hog that it bogs down without quad cores.
Lumia 920 - 1280x720, 4.0", Dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus, 1GB RAM, NFC, ambient light sensor/gyro/digital compass/accelerometer, 8MP rear camera, 5MP front Calera, 1080p video capture and of course Windows Phone 8 to top it off!
Millions of consumers out there (those who buy the iPhone 4S, Galaxy SIII, HTC One X) don't want to buy a phone and say that their new phone doesn't have very nice specs but at least it runs the OS smoothly... that's not good enough for them! When these consumers buy a new phone they want to know that they are buying the best one available in the market... That is all that matters to those millions of consumers, having the best one.
If Nokia doesn't make a phone as good or better than the other companies flagship devices people will keep seeing them as a company that is more focused on features phones and low-end smartphones.
I know the risks of making a phone with the best specs on the market. Today you are the best, tomorrow you aren't, but at least, when you launch your phone consumers will associate your brand with the best product, and that's what Nokia needs now, brand recognition.
If Nokia can continue to make unique designs like the N9 design or something new then they will have a chance to grab mind share.
Specs aren't as important as how it looks, a great screen is a good starting point that draws in the average consumer. Windows just needs a good market push when 8 comes along.
My partner went from iPhone 3GS to Nokia Lumia 800 based on my belief it would suit him better. Was a leap of faith as being on an iPhone for many years he lost all his apps when moving over. How has happened is he got a phone that he's found to be many times better than his iPhone and is used much more than the iPhone ever was.
Probably mostly true. But also true is that the other several hundred million users don't give a crap about specs. And those are the people who are going to help your market share. If your phones look sexy and have a good marketing plan, they sell themselves. Apple proved that. ok, if we're needing a phone to grab attention from spec-whores, it better have a 64-core processor clocked at 200GHz per core. That's 12.8THz of processing power. Better have a beefy battery to back that up Nokia- plus a 500 terapixel camera, 500TB ram, over 9000 TB of flash storage, etc. Then watch as Samsung releases a phone the following day beating all that. Oh, and running Android of course.
Nah, spec whores are ALWAYS gonna be Android and they will NEVER change to WP no matter what. Even if you paid them a billion bucks a day. Yes, get decent specs in there, but they don't have to be top-of-the-range. PureView, if advertised right, will work well. Get carriers to push them cheap and put out so many commercials about WP it makes people want to kill themselves just to get away from those adverts. That's how you get people on board.

I don't agree. Not only "spec whores" look at specs. They might be the ones who look at specs and actually understand them, but there are many people out there, who don't understand nothing about technology, and just asks for the phone with best specs and purchase it. And for those it won't matter if it is WP8, Android or iOS, as long as it's the best.
Exactly, and who told them that. If they were told iPhone was the only device that could stream a video or talk back to you, they would believe that too. Their just words without meaning..
That's also true, but if you ask many iOS users why do they have an iPhone, they will just tell you "because it's the most powerful smartphone in the market". Which means, although they don't understand nothing about it, they still think that specs are important.
