Nokia Drive for all?

Just wondering if the rest of the windows phones would be getting nokia drive after an exclusives period or not. Have a titan and htc's locations app is good and offers offline maps but they want you to pay every time you use it.

I could be wrong, but I thought Nokia Drive would be available for all WP8 devices. I don't recall anything about WP7 devices.

I also haven't heard anything about Nokia Drive/Maps coming to 2nd gen, 7.8 devices.

Nokia Drive will be included with WP8 but probably will not be included with most WP7.8 updates due to the smaller internal memory sizes on most of the older devices.

Nokia is making Nokia Drive available for all Windows Phone 8 partners, but whether they use that actual app or not is up to them. Nokia's location assets are also available to use for all partners... but my bet is that all this tech they have will be licensed out and not everyone will want to pay.

We'll see how this pans out in just three long weeks + a weekend.

Yes, you can do regional downloads, but even then, it would take 10-15% of your 8GB memory in something like the Radar to use the offline mapping. The App is going to change for the 'unlocked' version and Nokia will probably still have a premium version with offline route planning in the future.

What isn't know by many people is that Navteq, the company that does Bing Maps, is owned by Nokia. It is the basis for the Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive programming. When the deal for Bing Maps was struck, Microsoft was not allowed to use the mapping system for turn-by-turn directions without prompting the next step (like the touch the screen to get the next direction like we have in Bing Maps now) and Nokia is being gracious enough to let Microsoft build "Bing Maps" with the TBT directions for Windows 8 under the Nokia name. It's a good win-win for both of them and the users themselves.

I would guess that the majority of Nokia's features will be absent from the new software releases as Microsoft is starting their own service offerings like XBox Music to compete.
