Nokia Lumia 1520 Camera Capture Modes

The Lumia 1520 has a camera with 20 MP. When setting the Nokia camera, the selections for the Capture modes are:
JPEG (5 MP)
JPEG (5 MP + 16 MP)
JPEG (5 MP + DNG (16 MP)

Can anyone explain what each one means and purpose ? and which one is best ?
