Nokia Maps Work Just Fine...

Came back to WP after a nearly a year with the Note and S3...I live in DFW. and was able to pick up a barely used L820...Nokia Maps/Drive seems to be in desperate need of an update in this area. The other day I went from one side of Dallas to the other on the George Bush Toll Road, and Nokia Drive told me to "drive to the nearest road", it was nearly 10 miles or so before it realized that I was on a road, and then it wanted me to take every exit I passed...

It has been a while, but I don't remember Bing being lost like that. Granted, the eastern section of the Bush Tollroad only opened in late December or early January, but I gotta say that I have definitely enjoyed being spoiled by Google maps on my Android devices...

3. We had some time to do some skiing before we left Colorado. We were headed to Loveland pass, and I punched it into Nokia maps but was not able to find it. Fortunately, I knew approximately where we were going, bit there's no way to just drop a pin on the map to be able to get some idea of how long it would take to get there.

You can tap and hold a location on the map to drop a pin, then tap the pin and get directions.

I TRIED to use Nokia Drive this weekend. The thing didn't want to point me in the right direction. Had location services on and all that. The device would not follow my location and guide me like it's supposed to. This was in Washington DC yesterday. I even stopped and started the routing over and over. This is not something you should have to uninstall and reinstall, but I digress, it did say BETA after all

Dont get me wrong, this shouldnt have to even be asked, but did you update your map after downloading them?

I believe that I did try to do that and nothing happened. I could be wrong, but I can't check it right now because I already uninstalled Nokia Maps.

Ironically, this feature does work on Bing Maps but I wouldn't have had to use it because Bing would have found the destination in the first place.

I use the Garmin app that I have been using with my Samsung Focus for the last 2.5yrs. It uses data from Google for it's search and maps. I travel a ton so this has been a must, I have had very few issues with it. The app was expensive at $40 but for the amount of traveling I do worth it.

Nokia Drive Beta is a good start. I give it a pass because it is a Beta. My big issue is that I have had it lock up on me a few times and I don't understand why if we have the maps downloaded to our phones why is a cell signal required for directions or finding and address? Those are the only things I can't accomplish with Garmin. I would really like Nokia Drive to do that with out any signal, hope to see that as well as more precise maps in the update...sooon....for the time being I will stick to the excellent Garmin app.

Nokia's USA database for POIs is absolutely abysmal from my experience in S. Florida. My own business address is 8years out of date. Bing's database has it correct, including name change one year ago.

Is anyone else really annoyed that you can't add POIs to your contacts from the information page that comes up when you tap on them from Nokia/Bing maps or Bing search? You can't even copy the information from that page to paste into a contact. It is infuriating to have to switch between apps in order to manually type everything in. This seems like a glaring miss in my opinion.

Yes, it is annoying that you can't copy/paste information from the POI "cards," especially because hold+press, copy/paste was a feature in WP7.5 (and I think in WP7.1 with copy/paste update) that was deleted in WP8.
