So I have both the in-ear (ordered from amazon, delivered today) and the on-ear (via the lumia 800 bundle) nokia purity headphones. Very interesting behavior. They both have the same ribbon cable with a three button controller, volume +/- and middle button. With the in-ears, all functions work perfectly (volume up/down, middle button single/double/triple press for pause/next track/previous track) but with the on-ear cable, those functions are sporatic to say the least. That is to say, they work if the phone is unlocked, or locked but not asleep. If the phone is asleep, those operations work about 20% of the time.

Very strange. By the way, if you are interested in the on-ear purity hd, I would definetely try them in person first. They don't sound that great, and they are quite slippery on the head.

Here's a picture of both plugs, they look identical other than the L-shape of the on-ear cable:

My cyan in-ear purity headphones seem to have your on-ear problems. Very sporadic, and almost useless when the phone is locked.

I've requested a replacement on amazon

So you would go with the in-ear ones instead of the over the ear ones basically..?

If the choice was between those two, definitely. The on-ears don't sound that great, and they slide all over my head. The in-ears sound pretty good, lots of bass but for me that's a good thing. I'm no audiophile; I actually prefer the way the Dr Dre Beats sound. I'm actually very pleased with the in-ears so far. I wish they had an L-shaped plug, but otherwise nice.

My wife has the cyan in-ears and hers came with an L-shaped adapter. I thought they all came with that. She got her set from the "brick and mortar" Microsoft Store.

Yeah I'm not sure what's with that L shaped adapter. I tried it and it gave the music a bad echo, plus the controls no longer worked.

Received a replacement. Same issue. Looks to be a phone problem

L-shape adapter gives bad music quality and no controls for both

Getting annoyed with all these Lumia issues. They really needed to have their stuff straight for this launch and it looks like they managed to flub basically everything
