Well, save for new apps and features it'll work mostly OK as a basic smartphone.

You might want to look into custom ROMs and jailbreaks over at XDA Developers for WP7.

If it's the AT&T version (X310a) get ready to read up on the Gold Card flashing method. You'll need to make your own Y-cable but it's fairly easy. If you have the International version (X310e) it's much easier. Good luck with the new toy.
