Older WhatsApp on WP 8.1?

Hi,

I´m a minimal smartphone user and have a 925 with 8.1. I only use WhatsApp and the camera.

Since some updates (yay! there are still ones) WhatsApp feels slow and heavy. I noticed that there seem´s to be a garbage collection in WP 8.1, that always kills it when going to sleep. So you have always load the app again.

I presume that there is nothing that I can do to stop this behaviour.

But I´m curious if here is a "update-resistant"-user, who has the "old" version, before the massive update (the UI was also updated)? Does it still work? Or is WhatsApp forcing the update? (What version number was the last speedy one?)

WOOOOUUULD it be any possible somehow to manual downgrade and be happy? (like on android, apk-mirror, manual installation)

You can look it up on the web, few but exist sites for AppX files.
For the performance a reinstallation always works for me on Lumia 720
