On a call, look at the phone... back to main menu?

When I'm on a call the screen goes blank to save battery power (I assume). When I take it away from my ear to get into options such as ending a call or trying to mute, the phone resets the the TouchFLO screen instead of staying on the call screen Is this some setting that I have on? It's kind of a pain in the butt to press the phone button to get back to the call screen to end a call. I could just press the end call button but then I'm taking the risk of not REALLY knowing if the person has been disconnected or not.

Any suggestions or thoughts?
