Hello,

Amazon offers 1TB of space for $59.99 a year and unlimited Photos

Office365 offers 1TB of space and Office for $79.99

I don't really use the Office products at home. Or there is open source, or Google services.

I primarily need storage.

Can someone share their experiences with Amazon Drive and OneDrive - which is better?

Thanks,

Mr. V

If from the start you had no interest in giving your money to Microsoft for OneDrive then why did you even ask the question in the first place? As you can see most people agree that Amazon is very basic and has very little integration with Windows and other systems.

Warning: whoever is using either Google Drive or Amazon for unlimited picture storage. those services are not really unlimited. For Google, if your original image resolution is greater than 16 megapixels or video 1080p it will be resized. You can opt to store those images but, if you choose to do so those pictures (often RAW based images) it will actually count against your actual GoogleDrive storage limits. So, that unlimited usage is really not unlimited for large images. Amazon does something similar. These unlimited options are great if you are posting selfies and cat videos but, not so great if you are doing real photography.

In the world we leave in today, more and more people store more and more data, there is a great need for larger online cloud storage. With the automatic backup capability of google drive on all device that a user typically owns (iphone, macbook, wintel laptop, including other family members’ devices, etc.), storage can grow quickly. 1 tb is no longer enough. With the amount of photos and videos from mobile phones and cameras being taken year round, google is the only one providing reasonable storage at a reasonable price.
, personally wouldn't put all my files on the cloud (or at least not on 1 cloud). It only needs to be hacked once (e.g. you accidentally use the same password for something else that gets hacked, or some other accident) and everything lies on the street (in the hands of stalkers, you can get blackmailed etc). Or something happens on an update and all your stuff on the cloud gets removed accidentally or such.
Also photos are not so big, I have thousands of photos (high resolution) on my disk and it is still almost empty (just don't save all of them in raw, that makes only sense for photo's for professional usage / that you are going to edit extensively).
Mainly music and videos can get quite large, but music is turning more into streaming so basically that only leaves videos.
Lastly, an external hdd + some/free cloud space (or family combo with Office 365) is cheaper over time than only cloud space and you will want to have a physical backup anyway just to be on the safe side.

Amazon is very basic - it is just a giant file share. But I am an Amazon Prime member. So it makes sense

As MS gets rid of mobile (by Groove), I am probably headed towards Android. Not giving my money to MS - especially after the dropped W10m and then wanted to scale back on the 15GB for free on OneDrive. I don't trust them for consumer services. I can see them backing out and totally going for the business market.

Or go to google....

OneDrive does have a decent search on it - can recognize objects (search for 'boat' and boats appear) but I Amazon can develop this stuff too.

Anyhow - thanks for sharing your thoughts - appreciated!

I started using OneDrive before MS quit on WP - that is why I started using it.
Hence the question.
