over heating of battery

On a couple of occasion I have noticed the back of the DVP overheating, any reason for this that anyones is aware?

I have noticed the same thing when running my GPS navigation very odd. It only happened once so I haven't noticed a pattern yet so I have no clue what is causing it.

I've just got my DVP (as a backup phone) and I noticed that the battery/back gets worringly warm when it's used while charging.
Charging and left alone? Fine.
Used while not charging? Fine.
Used while charging (listening to music or playing a game for example) and it quickly heats up to the point where I'm worried enough to stop using it.
