So yesterday facebook said it was having problems logging in. I logged into the site and saw my platform applications was off. How it's worked this long I'm not sure. So I turned it on. Now, I can get status updates and contact syncs, but I can't seem to pull down any pictures of any kind. I don't get contact pictures, status update pictures, photo album pictures, nothing.

The facebook sync says the following:
facebook error

not updated
We're having a problem connecting. Try again later.
Last tried 3 seconds ago
Error code: 80072EFF

I found this article and it has not helped:
Error message on Windows Phone 7: "Facebook error"

I have tried everything short of resetting my phone including switching to wifi, deleting and recreating the facebook account on the phone, checking all my settings on the facebook website.

checking the Windows Phone app on facebook it is showing everthing synced as of today with the exception of "News Feeds" and "Photos uploaded by me". Those 2 were last updated 2 days ago.

Note the facebook app is working just fine.

Has anybody else seen this issue?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Edit*
I posted the issue on the MS forum here:

Yeah seeing exactly the same issue as of early this morning, if you try and force sync you get "not up to date" and if you delete and add the account again you get "attention required".

I've not changed any settings so looks like a server issue, I'll get on to the support channels now

That is strange, could be a selective server issue, have you tried forcing a sync in the email & accounts screen and if so does it complete?

Syncs okay when forced, have you tried both on WiFi and 3G by any chance? Not sure of Facebook's infrastructure, so I couldn't possibly comment on whether it's a server-side issue. Please keep us updated with this and if the problem continues through to tomorrow we'll whip up an article.

It would be great if anyone reading this thread could also run quick tests on the People hub and their Facebook synchronisation profile (email & accounts) to see if they run into any problems.

Hello folks,

I just registered to say that i got the same error.

In the Contact Hub, the photos posted on facebook are grey, and when I click on it, it says "Unable to get the picture, please try later" or sthg like this.

Exactly the same problem as your, sandman...

(Sorry for my english, I'm french...)

Could be a Facebook issue. I just logged in to Facebook from my pc and was greeted with this message at the top of the page.

"Something Missing? Don't Worry!
You may not be able to see your profile picture or applications right now due to a temporary technical glitch. We should have this fixed very shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Forcing the sync for me has almost always returned an 80072EFF. Interestingly enough under email and accounts is was saying "not up to date". Now it's saying "Attention required". The error message is still the same as I posted above.

same issue

Same problem here.

Text-based updates from friends show up fine in the People Hub, but images do not.

Samsung Focus, ATT, fwiw.

I must say that I'm getting a bit tired of this phone and the issues behind it. My wireless sync with Zune decided it doesn't want to work anymore, too. Should have stayed with ....

From the Microsoft KB: Error message on Windows Phone 7: "Facebook error"

Basically says: "you're fooked". I'd pin this to a Facebook connection problem. Some people have been experiencing issues with synchronisation due to their Facebook profiles being in https etc. I will dig deeper on this and try locate some information or a potential fix. For now, I would try re-add your Facebook account (if not attempted already - annoying to do so I know) or wait for a while to see if it's rectified.

Good call on the https. I won't say it's entirely fixed, but it's much better. I turned of https in my facebook account settings and now images are downloading. The facebook sync is still giving me:

"Attention required:

Facebook error
Not Updated
We're having a problem connecting. Try again later.
Error code:83CF3105"

But most everything is working now. Picture are coming down in the pictures hub, in the status updates, and on the contacts. A few of my contacts don't have their picture. But when I click on them the picture syncs down.

I've had https on my facebook account settings since they introduced it. Not sure why it's causing an issue now.

Hmm, turning off https, then removing and re-adding the Facebook account does seem to have worked around the problem, but this is definitely something that needs fixing. We shouldn't have to compromise security for functionality

I turned https back on today. Attempted to sync facebook on my phone and it failed. Turned it back off and it still failed, but like before within a few hours after turning https off on facebook my sync was completing successfully.
