Does anyone know if the People hub will ever be linked with Facebook again or something else to make it as useful as it was in Windows 8? It would be nice if the What's New tab displayed some useful info.

I have Facebook linked to people hub on my L950 running the most recent DP. I think you just need the correct version of Facebook app (its just called 'Facebook'), and then check a few app permissions. Twitter and LinkedIn no longer work, unfortunately for all the usual stupid reasons.

Select contact and calendar sync from within the Facebook app and turn on syncing. This works on the app developed by Facebook. I'm not sure about beta or the Microsoft one.

My People Hub was not syncing as well. I went in to the app and sure enough the sync settings were turned off. I usually don't access Facebook via the because it leaves too many things out of my feed. I like using Edge. Thank you for posting.
