1. Log in to your account at WindowsPhone.com (or if you have a business Exchange account, log in to Outlook Web Access). Use the feature to wipe the phone, this will erase anything on the device. (Of course, it because usable again, but without your apps, data, photos, music, etc.) The feature can be found by pointing to your name below the search box at WindowsPhone.com and then selecting Find My Phone from the dropdown menu. From there, you'll see a choice toward the right to "Erase."
2. Call your mobile carrier and ask them to toll and text restrict the device, but don't disable it yet or turn off the data service. It needs to have a data plan to try to reach your server so that the remote wipe feature can be found.
3. Once you know that it's been wiped, call your mobile carrier to disable service and report it as lost/stolen.

Before you wipe it, hit find my phone. Maybe you will know where it is. Left behind?

You might try the Find My Phone before erasing it so you can give the location to law enforcement. It can work. I teach in a juvenile detention center and received one of my students this way. :) The kid was literally talking on the phone when the police showed up to his door. Oh, and guess what is the most favorite reading book? "The World's Dumbest Criminals" LOL

Find My Phone will tell you where it was last seen. If another SIM is inserted and that SIM has a data plan, the wipe command from WindowsPhone.com will be processed.

For what it's worth, the thief probably wanted the device more than the data. As such, he or she will try the PIN repeatedly until the device is wiped or will look up the master reset button combo online and then erase the phone.

My Lumia 920 was stolen and did thought i will get it back. But tried every possible way, but didn't get even a hint where it is. Thief off the phone immediately, flash it and install new sim card.

Perhaps, but the Police aren't going to spend much time on this one. Largely because very swiftly it would become far cheaper and more sensible for the Police to just buy you a new phone. That also will not happen.

The Find My Phone feature is only really useful for when you've lost your phone or left it somewhere. It it's stolen, the first thing a thief would do is to hard reset the device and put a new sim card into it. The vast majority of thieves are not interested in your data, it's the quick sell of the phone that matters. They'll try to sell it quickly, before your cell provider blocks it.

It's great that you had a PIN code, it's your first best line of defence in keeping your data. As Andy has said, report the loss to both your provider and police and claim on the insurance.

Change your passwords to be prudent.

Yes. Just use your MS Live account when you set the phone up.
