Seems to be working better now, but still unable to take a picture of the floor or grass. Can anyone confirm that their camera will focus on carpet or grass from a normal standing position aiming down with the dedicated shutter button? My meter disappears and only randomly focuses.

Thanks. I do have $5000 worth of DSLR equipment but the 920 isn't half bad and easier to carry around


Original, untouched photos are linked below. There is more apparent noise and the photos I posted were run through Creative Suite so the noise does show itself more. I could have run them through Lightroom but for my real photography I'd rather use my DSLR

Some of these pictures look amazing. Can people put settings in their posts if possible? Would like to know how to tweak my camera settings for better pictures.

It really depends on the lighting and situation. On the WP8 camera software there really aren't many exposure options to mess with and we have a fixed aperture on the lens.

Given the lack of metering modes probably the biggest things we can change to impact exposures would be ISO and exposure value. If you want darker shadows you can set ISO to lower values. This camera will expose well beyond what our eye can see in dark situations at high ISO values.

Which gets me to my next point. Microsoft has made it a PITA to change camera settings. I don't know how many times I've had focus issues only to discover I had left the camera in macro mode. Whoever designed the WP system camera isn't a photographer.

There is a new app on the market, CameraPro, that opens up more settings. It's a little rough around the edges but I decided to buy the app to support the developer's efforts.

glimited so you used Auto settings then ran through creative studio? Would you mine sharing what you adjusted in creative studio to reduce the noise because seriously those pictures are amazing. You are obviously in photography too cause you know when and where to take those shots, absolutely beautiful thanks for sharing.

I Recorded this short sequence of video at Nitro Circus Live at the O2 in London recently. The lighting colours came out really well on the video I think (change view to 720p)

Even has a manual focus, much more ISO and Exposure settings, focus settings, I mean everything. Sometimes it crashes, and it needs to initialize when you load it, also the picture viewer is a bit laggy, but picture quality is much better on auto settings! Accurate white balance, even in doors, and deeper tuning of light balance. Less noise also! there is no free version, its 2.49, but its worth every penny. Fixed my focus problem and its macro setting or closest manual focus gets even closer than the default camera app. Check this out.

Wow, it has a lot of features!

Overall I am very happy with the camera, but I did have a few shots (both stills and video) where autofocus result was very poor. One bad photo was on a grass field like the one you have here. One video I got on a snow field was also blurry. It seemed like the AF system sometimes gets confused if you have a predominantly low contrast scenes, which I think is true for most cameras to some degree. With still shots, it's usually not a problem because you can get good AF lock if you try again once or twice. With video, it's more problematic because it's harder to tell from screen whether it's good or bad - you realize it's bad only after watching it on PC. Does this app support manual focusing for video also? If so, I can just manually set the focusing distance to hyperfocal distance (somewhere around 2 ft in the case of Lumia 920) and not worry about getting blurry video.

Hi, how come your photos have 3551 x 1999 res and 96 dpi when mine dose 3552 x 2000 with only 72 dpi? Are you using Lumia 920? I checked all my pictures none have 72 dpi and I think they look kinda blurry/soft.

Never mind it is the wpcentral resizes pictures to 3551x 1999 92 dpi

Yeah, I wish they would implement easier camera adjustments. A small button overlay of the available settings and adjustments via volume controls would be a nice feature.

Thanks. Yeah, they were all shot in auto settings with slight adjustments in exposure depending on the lighting conditions to get the desired exposure. I opened them up in Creative Studio and just selected one of the presets which I felt was good for the scene. Then some more slight adjustments in color balance, brightness, clarity, and vibrance. I do think it helps to have a little bit of knowledge in photography to try and get the right lighting, composition, etc.

Haha, thanks. It helps to have a bit of basic photography knowledge, but take your time with composing and finding the right lighting. Digital photography is free so keep shooting and practicing until you get photos you're happy with Links to the originals can be found at the top of this post.


On a final note, the CameraPro app looks pretty decent, I may have to give it a try. The only other photo apps I currently have are Fhotoroom, Lomogram, and Photo Shader. Fhotoroom/Lomogram are decent for basic creative filters and I like Photo Shader since it has a bit more advanced adjustments. But I noticed that the photo quality degrades quite a bit when using these programs. Creative Studio seems to be the best for preserving the original quality. I'm also waiting on a quality HDR app ... looks like HDR Photo Camera is decent but from the reviews it seems it's best with a tripod since it doesn't align the photos that well. I don't really feel like setting up a small tripod and hopefully the algorithms for alignment get better like the many apps on iOS that I use to use.

There is couple of truly great photos. Well composed and very nice lightning. Loved that singing in the rain shot:excited: I believe these are PR 1.0 camera shots. Almost no noise at all. I think Nokia made mistake and over compensated noise vs sharpness level. Now photos are sharp but very noisy. Middlle way in there would have been optimal.
