Hey Everyone,

So with some investigative work, I think I have a temporary fix for the issues with Edge and screen flickering/discoloration!

I basically just force installed the Intel drivers, which were last updated in 10/1/15 for Skylake and HD 520. The MS Drivers were last updated 9/24/15. When you try to install it normally, you get stopped due to the installer saying you need to install via the Manufacturer. But there's a way around it.

This is how you do it.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25484/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-

1.Download the 64 bit ZIP version and extract
2.Right click the bottom left corner on your desktop and select “Device Manager”
3.Open “Display adapters”, right click the Intel HD 520 graphics card and hit “Update Driver Software…”
4.Select the “Browser my computer for driver software”
5.Select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”
6.Click “Have Disk…” and browser to the extracted Intel Driver Software!
7.In the subfolder “Graphics” open the .inf file
8.Now click “Ok” and continue installing the driver by hitting “Next”…

Wait a bit and let it do it's thing. It will install and ask you to restart. Do so and see if you're having the issues.

So far, for me, so good.

Mind you, this is not likely supported whatsoever and there's probably some magic from Microsoft to make the transition between dGPU and iGPU happen. So far though, I haven't seen any issues. I can use my dGPU as expected, press the undock and redock as expected. Overall, the Book seems a lot more stable with the Intel drivers than the Microsoft drivers.

This is great news, because it likely means that Microsoft just needs to push out the MS versions of the Intel HD 520 drivers to 10/1 instead of using the old 9/24 based drivers. Looking at the version numbers between the two is a bit interesting as well. The 9/24 MS drivers have the version number 10.18.4293 where as the 10/1 Intel drivers are 20.19.15.4300. Hopefully all the issues get resolved once MS pushes the updated drivers.

Hope this helps someone with their woes! Let me know if it works for you too!

Better question is why are the drivers not validated for the Surface Book / Pro 4 and why didn't Microsoft push it out as a Day 1 update? Being that Intel release these on 10/26/2015.

I updated based on wishful thinking that this would convince my Surface Book to drive my two 4K displays, but unfortunately it has no effect on that particular problem. I still can use only one 4K display at a time. And there remains a great deal of fussing (attach/detach/attach/detach/repeat). I need to disconnect and reconnect the dock to get the situation to stabilize.

I've been running the update for the last 1+ and so far it seems to have dealt with the issues. Now, if only there was a firmware update for my dead pixel :straight:

So far so good, back to using Edge for now as a test. We shall see. Now, time to get the standby issue resolved.

Edit: last report showed combo of the NIC and display ate battery. Faster than using it. Ugh.

So basically I think it fixed discoloration, but flash based videos are still affected. Screen still shakes when watching pornhub and youtube. Two of the most important sites everyone visits I assume.
