preview for developers before windows insider?

I just replaced the screen on a Lumia 920 that hasn't been turned on in a year and a half. I intend to take it to windows 10... But should I go through the preview for developers updates and then the windows insider updates?

I'm afraid if I skip the preview for developers I'll miss a firmware update or something like that.

Thought I'd reply, as I see no one else has as of yet. I'd say going through dev preview couldn't hurt, and to cover the bases, so to say. I don't have your model phone, but I myself went through preview for devs to receive Denim firmware for my handset (back when they were on an earlier build of Win10).. and then I just joined the slow ring and pulled down the current build.

So as I understand, the Win10 preview builds do not currently contain any firmware along with them.. just OS. Unless someone says differently, maybe best to go dev preview app first.
