What's the correct procedure to disconnect my HP Elite X3 (or I suppose and W10 Continuum phone) from either the lap dock or desk dock with an external monitor? I find at least recently with the newer Insider builds, that if I just pull the USB-C cable from the phone as I'm leaving, that most of the time the display won't come on any more. I can press the power button and nothing happens. I need to then hold the power button in for 15-20 seconds to reboot the phone to get the screen back. Is this a glitch in Continuum? Or am I ejecting my phone incorrectly?

I have recently seen exactly the same problem with FR versions. I use the cradle to recharge whether I use Continuum or not, and have decided on future occasions to wake the x3 in its cradle and return to the start screen before disconnecting it. It feels to me as though there is something in the Continuum software that lets the device fall into comatose sleep if you just yank it free. Only the long-push restart wakes it from nothingness.

I dock my phone with lockscreen unlocked. It will go to display mode right after that. Once i'm done i close what ever apps or edge and just undock it from the deskdock. There will be a disconnect sound and it returns me to the start screen. Thats basically how i disconnect from the deskdock.

Hi guys is there a right way to disconnect the Elite from display Dock? I too had a problem with the extern screen not coming on after I reconnect the phone to the display dock? I use the ms Display Dock I used with my Lumia 950.

I'm also on the FR (Fast Ring) Insider track, and just last nite got build 15051. Still have problems with both the lapdock and the desk dock (connected to an external display). Being on the FR, I did not get the latest firmware update to 0002.0000.0023.0113. I'm still on 0002.0000.0018.0105. Is there any way to update short of leaving the Windows Insider program? I don't know if the HP firmware update will fix anything, but I sure would like to rule it out.

Okay, I bit the bullet and used the Windows Device Recovery Tool to leave the Insider FR. As soon as it connected to my Elite X3, it showed that firmware 0002.0000.0026.0118 was available. To install the firmware I needed to get the phone into a "ready" state by rebooting and holding the "up" volume button until the phone went into the flash ready state. After all was said and done, I was out of the Insider FR and back at 14393. Connection to / Disconnecting from the Desk Dock was finally working like it should. I used it over the weekend this way, before attempting to get back on the Insider FR. Now back at RS2 Build 15055. Had a couple of hick-ups with the Desk Dock not working right with my display / mouse/ keyboard, but it seems okay now. Unplugged the power from the Desk Dock seemed to help. Now my work setup of the Desk Dock with a Acer 19" display (connect via DVI to HDMI adapter to the Desk Dock), and a Lenovo ful-sizedl wired keyboard and HP wired mouse (both connected via USB to the Desk Dock) is working as I envisioned. Still not sure if it was the latest Insider builds causing the problems, or the older HP Elite X3 firmware.

The setup ran fine on the older Insider builds right after I got the phone at Christmas. It wasn't until the end of January that the phone display wouldn't come on after disconnecting (I believe the phone was still working, since my Bluetooth connection was still active), and I was having problems with the display coming on / connecting when I plugged my phone into the Desk Dock. In addition, there were numerous phone resets/reboots while connected to the Desk Dock. We'll see how thing go from here. But all-in-all it's working MUCH better now. Have to expect some problems while on the Insider builds!
