Protective case?

Do you have any bad experiences with protective cases, i use tpu flip-book cover case and because i have lot's of cards it's awesome for busines. It's big enough i can put money in and not bend it.. but when i don't work and when i use it for training or home it's not so awesome. It's big and really anoying sometimes. I know it's best protection because it's like your phone have seperate bag for it, i don't belive in cases like ultra slim niklin or hard cases witout flip cover ( generaly i don't belive in case witout flip cover ), but i decided to try it when i'm away from job.
Wich one do you sugest me, hard case or silicon one?
Do you have personal opinions on it?
Wich offer maximum protection?
