My brother's Lumia 920 is about 3 years old. A few days ago, he started having issues with the proximity sensor. The screen stays off when he is on a phone call. It takes several taps of the power button to get the screen to come back on so that he can hang up or try to do anything else while on a call. The glance screen will not work in "peek" mode, and the phone no longer responds to double-tap to wake.

Edit: Problem has been resolved. I looked up a diagram of where the proximity sensor was located. My brother's screen protector is pretty old and needs to be replaced. I texted and had him trim the top corner that covers the proximity sensor and he said everything is working normal now.

I was about to suggest cleaning the part of the screen where the proximity sensor is in, until I went on and read the second paragraph. Glad that you've found the solution to the problem.

P.S. Have you looked at liquid screen protectors? They may be a lot better than adhesive film-type screen protectors.
