So I installed mango b2 and like being able to subscribe to podcasts directly on my htc surround but does anyone know how to make the phone only download the most recent episode. It does this but issue i have is if i listen to podcast then delete it the phone will download the previous episode and i just want it to download episodes as i ask it to or just most recent in the thread

You can set all that up through you Zune desktop app. Its all set up in sync settings or there are more choices in the collections/podcast area on your Zune desktop.

i have unlimited data and prefer to manage podcasts on my device rather then through sync. The ability to download podcasts in mango was a main reason i updates to the mango beta

I think I've got the same problem. I used to sync my podcasts from Zune desktop to my phone, but would also like to just omit the desktop software for podcasts.

So after upgrading to Mango I sync'ed one podcast to my phone from the desktop Zune (as I'm outside the US that's the only option I have to get podcasts onto the phone in the first place), and then I pressed the "subscribe" button inside the zune software and wanted to have the latest 2 episodes downloaded. However, since the current episode of this particular podcast is 217 (that's the one I manually sync'ed) the phone now downloads 216 and 215 - which is okay.

But I want to order the podcast with the oldest one first, so I hit "series settings" and change the playback order to "Oldest episodes first" and press "confirm" - and now episode 1 and 2 starts downloading and episode 215 and 216 is deleted.

How the heck do I keep the latest 2 (or 3, or 4) episodes on the device with the oldest episodes first?

i posted this same concern in the "official" mango feature/bug thread (knowing that it's not an official update yet ... still in beta) ...

i'm wondering if this was thrown into the beta as an upcoming feature, but will MS refine it more before the official release this fall?? ... i sure hope so, cause it's awesome that it's there, but it's really not that functional when there are some feeds that we've been listening to for years, that we don't want to go through every segment from the feed's inception ...
