What should we do with "Rant Threads". We get them scatter throughout the forum. A lot are overly dramatic.

Last night I saw this "rant" post in the Windows Phone 7 OS Discussion. He labeled it as <rant>, not me:
http://forums.windowscentral.com/off-topic/198975.htm

Then I clicked on his Twitter account and saw this tweet:

I deleted his post and labeled it as "not needed"

He asked why it was deleted this morning: http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-phone-7-os-discussion/198982.htm As you can see I opened it and moved it to Off Topic.

What's the best thing to do with "Rant Threads"? Move them to Off Topic or just close them?

I seen this this morning I wanted to let you handle it. You can do what ever you think is right I will support it. In that situation what I would have done is leave the thread deleted then close the new complaint thread better to close it so the community sees we are doing something to help the guy. Then post in the closed thread that I sent you a PM. Send the guy a PM and explain that his thread is unwanted content.

The other thing I like to do is just combine all the rant threads. With the news of XBOX music being made available to other platforms I knew we would get a rash of complaints it happens every time. You can combine all the threads in to one. Then put that thread in a lesser viewed area of the forums like the Marketplace Applications forums where it should be anyways. Don't worry about explaining what happened or why the threads were combined once the frustration dies down the topic loses its punch and people forget about it. I seldom see complaints after merging topics.

Also if you have questions about a thread or post and you want to discuss it before making a decision you can mark the thread unapproved and then post in this forums about it. That can give us some time to make a decision on the topic. I do this some times when I am bust and cant get to something right away.

We also get a lot of, "Should I get a WP8?" threads, where they write a 500 word essay on their iPhone applications and notifications.

You'd swear they were taking out their life saving and putting it into a high risk account.

Good gawd, it's just a phone and they have 30 days to try it. If they don't like it, they can return it and cancel their contract. :D

I have seen a lot of those. You can merge those threads if you like. Make one into a sticky in the WP8 forum then merge the new threads into it. I have long been a proponent of everyone gets their own thread to be honest up till recently we didn't have the necessary traffic to make it an issue. I hope those days are behind us. As we move forwarded we will need to be more diligent about merging these types of topics.

I like those should and considering threads as it shows that they have interest in coming to the platform rather than those who have doubts about staying on WP.
