Recover deleted files possible?

Hi there! I have an HTC 8S and have accidentally deleted about 200 photos from the internal drive.... Now, I have a number of disk recovery tools at hand but NONE of them can "see" the device, since it is connected as an MTP device and has no drive letter. Is there any way I can connect the phone as a regular mass storage device so that Windows8 will assign it a drive letter (and thus make it visible to all other programs)? Or does anyone know of a way to recover lost files from a Windows Phone 8 device?

Oh, and PLEASE do not point me to recovery software as I have that already AND IT DOESN'T WORK due to the way the Phone connects to Windows 8. I need to know how to assign a drive letter to the device internal storage... I have done much searching and tried many things, but it seems that recovering files from the device is impossible. :(

PS: I have checked the Windows 8 Disk Manager too, and it does not appear there either, so I cannot assign a drive that way.

Did you check your SkyDrive account? If you have it set that way, your photos will have been synced to a folder on it and the missing photos should be there as long as there was a point when you were on wifi after they were taken for it to upload.

Unfortunately we do not have a good internet tarif for the phone and so we NEVER have wifi or connectivity activated. So no syncing...

It would be great if someone could help us do this - I have the exact same problem. About 200 photos just disappeared after getting back off holiday.

I need to be able to assign a drive letter to use ANY of the recovery tools.

Of course, I switched off auto SkyDrive upload as I would be overseas - Doh!

Are they gone forever?

Even though they are probably stuck somewhere in my "Other" or deleted portion of memory folder until they get overwritten.
